HST REFS - Resources for Easing Friction and Stress

HST-REFS is a support program comprised of HST students and alumni formally trained in mediation, organized as part of a broader MIT inititative.

REFS provide confidential or anonymous, low-barrier services to members of the HST community. REFS can help during times of uncertainty and stress regarding matters including, but not limited to, conflict with peers or advisors or concerns more personal in nature.

REFS are trained to clarify, simplify, and defuse problems that may seem insurmountable. And when we need to pull out the bigger guns, we can make referrals to the people most capable of helping you, or request information from appropriate resources while maintaining your confidentiality. All conversations are held in strict confidence and action will only be taken with your permission, except in the unusual situation of imminent risk of serious harm to self or others, or when required to do so by law.
