Admission Information for Biomedical Informatics

Admissions

Applications for the Biomedical Informatics master's program (BMI) are accepted for both the fall and the spring semesters. The application deadline for the spring semester is November 1; for the fall semester it is January 15. Applicants are notified by early January for spring admission and mid-April for fall admission.

The BMI Master's program is open only to students who have already achieved advanced training in the health sciences, e.g., doctoral degree in medicine, dentistry, nursing, veterinary medicine, or clinical psychology, or a PhD in a medically-relevant field such as physiology.

Applicants can apply online by going to MIT Admissions or by downloading a PDF version of the MIT graduate application. For "department", list "HST"; under "joint program", choose "Biomedical Informatics."

Candidates should arrange to have an original set of any supporting documentation on paper (letters of recommendation, transcripts, test scores) sent to:

The GRE general test or the MCAT is required for all applicants. To send GRE scores to HST, use code 0699, Health/Medical Sciences-Other.

All candidates to HST programs whose native language is not English, or who did not attend an English-language secondary school, must submit either an IELTS or a TOEFL score report.
IELTS: strongly preferred; minimum score required: 7
TOEFL: minimum score required: 600 (250 for computer-based), department code: 99
