University of Illinois system names HST grad to leadership role

Joseph “Jay” Walsh, a graduate of HST’s Medical Engineering and Medical Physics (MEMP) PhD program, has been named interim Vice President for Economic Development and Innovation at the University of Illinois System.

On April 27, the National Academy of Sciences elected 120 new members and 26 international associates, including three professors from MIT — Abhijit Banerjee; Bonnie Berger, an HST faculty member; and Roger Summons — recognizing their “distinguished and continuing achievements in original research.”

MIT conference reveals the power of using artificial intelligence to discover new drugs

In Feburary, the first-ever AI Powered Drug Discovery and Manufacturing Conference, conceived and hosted by the Abdul Latif Jameel Clinic for Machine Learning in Health, drew attendees including pharmaceutical industry researchers, government regulators, venture capitalists, and pioneering drug researchers. Mathai Mammen, an HST graduate and the head of R&D at the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson, was the keynote speaker.
