Application Forms for Financial Support

Completed forms can be submitted electronically to laurie [at] (Laurie Ward) or physically to MIT E25-518.

When possible, it is preferable to submit one application form to cover multiple semesters (summer, fall, spring) in a single year. In lieu of signing the form, faculty may send an email to laurie [at] (Laurie Ward) indicating that they have reviewed the form and agree to all terms.

Please take care to complete additional requirements specified on the RA and fellowship application forms, including:

  1. Updating the research information in your HST student profile. MIT Touchstone required for access.

  2. Obtaining approval for research involving human subjects.

  3. Obtaining approval for research involving vertebrate animals. MIT Touchstone required for access.

When all requirements have been met and your graduate funding is processed at MIT, you will receive a Graduate Appointment email from an automated MIT system. This is confirmation that your graduate support has been successfully submitted to MIT Payroll and Student Financial Systems. If you do not receive a Graduate Appointment email in the expected timeframe, please contact laurie [at] (Laurie Ward).

In order to receive stipend and tuition benefits associated with a Fellowship, Research Assistantship, or Teaching Assistantship, students should complete and submit the corresponding application form by the appropriate deadline:

  • Summer 2022: May 20, 2022

  • Fall Term 2022: August 19, 2022

  • Spring Term 2023: January 6, 2023 - extended to February 1, 2023 for first-year HST MD students

  • Summer 2023: May 19, 2023

Students are encouraged to submit RA application forms as early as possible.

If an appointment is not processed before MIT’s payroll deadline, the stipend will be paid retroactive to the start of the term, in a future paycheck. If this creates a financial hardship, contact laurie [at] (Laurie Ward) to ask if an expedited payment can be arranged.

Stipends are paid on a semi-monthly basis; you can learn more about your MIT paycheck here.
